Summit Theatre Group Announces an Open Call for our 18-19 Season!

Summit Theatre Group issues a call for applications from potential directors for part of our 2018-2019 season. Directors are encouraged to submit one to three different proposals. Each potential director is required to review our Production Manual before applying which can be found at the bottom of the page. 
The Season Selection Team propose the following general guidelines for each production.
Cellular ‘Cenes in collaboration with Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street
  • Annual late spring & summer street theatre piece written by Ben Martin performed in collaboration and on location with Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street. STG will work with DLSMS on dates of performances. In 2017 the performances were on the fourth Friday of the month from April-August, but no dates have been set for 2018 as of yet.
  • DESCRIPTION: Cellular ‘Cenes is a short romance told in five scenes. A young man walking down the street encounters a young woman who is conducting an experiment. And he is the guinea pig. Each scene follows the growing attraction between the two of them and features a different store within a typical downtown business district.
  • CAST: There are two actors who presently know the script and are available. However, the director may choose to audition for new actors. This production only requires about eight rehearsals.
  • DLSMS offers the following stipends: Director & Actors, $50 per performance. Stage Manager, $25 per performance.

Date: October 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 2018
  • TYPE OF PRODUCTION: Shakespeare Play
  • DESCRIPTION: Small to medium cast size Shakespeare play. It can be a comedy or drama. Directors are strongly encouraged to propose concepts not limited to the Elizabethan era; but set in different eras and locations. Minimal scenic requirements. The play should be cut to fit within a two-hour performance time frame.
  • LOCATION: MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center Black Box Theatre
Date: December 13-16, 2018
  • TYPE OF PRODUCTION: Holiday Dinner Theatre Play or Small Musical/Revue
  • DESCRIPTION: A play or small musical/revue with a winter or holiday theme with limited scenic and technical requirements. We will consider proposals for a holiday revue as well. Past productions for reference have included: The Gifts of the Magi, It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!), and Nuncrackers.
  • LOCATION: MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center Black Box Theatre

Date: March 22-23; 29-31, 2019

  • TYPE OF PRODUCTION: Small Cast Musical
  • DESCRIPTION: A small cast show that can be produced with limited scenic requirements. Combo sized accompaniment.  STG prefers live accompaniment.
  • STG is specifically looking for a well-known, popular musical in this slot.
  • LOCATION: MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center Black Box Theatre
Date: June 7-8; 14-16, 2019
  • TYPE OF PRODUCTION: Comedic Play
  • DESCRIPTION: Small to medium size cast comedy. Minimal technical requirements.
  • LOCATION: MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center Black Box Theatre

 

MCC-Longview Black Box Theatre Information: Stage area is 54′ x 48′ (without seating risers.) Seating is modular and can be reconfigured based on the show. Open black box with rolling catwalk, short curtains can hang from bottom of catwalk if desired. Four mic packs and three handheld mics. Small light setup with limited instruments. Video projector with optional projection screen on upstage wall.

Application should include:
  • Resume with special attention to directing experience.
  • Proposals with show title and production vision & concept: which should include your set design and technical needs. It can also include suggested costume/lighting/prop design.
  • Potential creative & production staff, if decided. (Optional: STG can help find creative & production staff members.)
Application Deadline & Decision Schedule
  • December 31, 2017: Applications due by midnight
  • Saturday, January 13 or 20: Interviews scheduled
  • Approximately by February 1: Notify directors of decision
  • Official Season announcement Winter Fundraising Event/Season Announcement TBD
